Port Canaveral chosen as hub for LUMBER distribution throughout Florida and South Georgia
“The service at Port Canaveral is fantastic…” — Kenny Woodard, President, WFI Sales, Inc. |
When WFI Sales, Inc. decided to expand its lumber importing business into Florida and South Georgia, choosing a new hub turned out to be easy, according to company president, Kenny Woodard. “We compared Port Canaveral to all the other ports in the state and chose it because we liked its clean waterfront locale, customized service and excellent rail connections.”
WFI, a marketing and logistics company with home offices in North Carolina, imports 120,000 tons of lumber per year through Port Canaveral. The lumber, which comes from Sweden, is offloaded from Finn Line ships by Ambassador Services, Inc. and stored in their yard until sent to its final destinations. Most of the lumber heads to the Home Depot and Lowe's Florida distribution centers, which supply retail outlets throughout the region. The remainder is delivered to independent retailers.
"The service at Port Canaveral is fantastic," says Woodard. "Port officials and Ambassador Services have done a great job for us. From our very first visit, Port officials made themselves available to give us the information we needed and answer all our questions. We look forward to a long and satisfying business relationship with Port Canaveral.”
