General
Public Safety at Port Canaveral

Port Canaveral’s cargo facilities are separated from the cruise ship areas. This increases the level of security and protects the integrity of your goods. Cargo areas are guarded 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and are well-lighted and surrounded with security fencing and surveillance only.

The 105.215 Non-Security training class is for Port workers who do not have security responsibilities. The training class must be taken annually in order to renew the Port badge. The class provides basic knowledge about security awareness and terminology.

The 105.210 Security training class is for those individuals who have security responsibilities, such as Security Officers and Law Enforcement. The training class provides the same information as the 105.215 class but gets more specific about duties and responsibilities. The class must be taken annually in order to renew the Port badge.

Individuals required to obtain a Port badge must complete either the 33 CFR (Code of Federal Regulations) 105.215 Non-Security training class or the 105.210 Security training class.

Pursuant to Florida port security legislation signed into law by Governor Bush on May 1, 2001 and revised on June 4, 2003, all persons and businesses who have a need to conduct business within Port Canaveral’s restricted access areas must obtain a Port Access Credential (badge) issued by the Canaveral Port Authority.

IMPORTANT PLEASE READ
Florida state law requires that all individuals who apply for a permanent port badge must undergo a fingerprint-based criminal history background check.
Those applicants who have within the past seven years been convicted, regardless of whether adjudication was withheld, of a forcible felony §776.08, an act of terrorism §775.30, planting of a hoax bomb §790.165, any violation involving the manufacture, possession, sale, delivery, display, use or attempted or threatened use of a weapon of mass destruction or hoax weapon of mass destruction §790.166, dealing in stolen property; any violation of §893.135; any violation involving the sale, manufacturing, delivery, or possession with intent to sell, manufacture, or deliver a controlled substance; burglary; robbery; any felony violation of §812.014; any violation of §790.07; any crime an element of which includes use or possession of a firearm; any conviction for any similar offenses under the laws of another jurisdiction; or conviction for conspiracy to commit any of the listed offenses under the laws of another jurisdiction; or incarceration and any of the listed offenses unless, after release from a subsequent conviction, regardless of whether adjudication was withheld, for any of the listed offenses for a period of at least seven years prior to applying for a badge will be denied the issuance of a badge.

Badge holders are subject to and consent to search upon entry, exit or at any time while in a restricted area of Port Canaveral. The possession, concealment and/or use of a weapon, alcohol or illegal substance, including any violation of the Port’s security policies or procedures in a restricted area, may result in the suspension or revocation of the issued access credential.

Application Procedure

Badge applications are processed and fingerprints taken at the Badging Office. Appointments are no longer needed; service is on a first-come, first-served basis. The office is open Monday-Friday 8 am to 3 pm. Special weekend hours may be available.
